Shusha To Unicode Converter

This is a utility to convert Hindi text written using the Shusha font into Hindi in Unicode (UTF-8) format. This should enable conversion of already existing large volumes of Hindi text in Shusha into the Unicode, facilitating the adoption of Unicode for Hindi by websites and other places where Shusha has been used.

System Requirements

Windows XP or Windows 2000 with support for Indic Languages installed.

How To Install Shusha To Unicode Converter

1. Download the ShushaToUnicode Converter (ShushaToUnicode.zip)
2. Download and install the .NET Framework 1.1 Redristributable Package which is required to run this utility.
3. Unzip ShushaToUnicode.zip into any folder and run ShushaToUnicode.exe


How To Use Shusha To Unicode Converter

1. Specify the input:
The utility expects any plain-text file containing only Shusha text (no HTML, no formatting) as input file. Plain-text meaning, you should be able to open it in Notepad.
Specify the input file, using the first Select button.


A sample source text file (sampleshushasource.txt) is provided, to give you an idea of what kind of an input the utility requires. This is what it should look like, when you open it in Notepad:


2. Specify the output:
Specify the filename and location where the converted unicode text should be saved by the software, using the second Select button. 


3. Click "Convert".
The software will save the resultant converted unicode text in the specified output file, in UTF-8 format, and will display the converted text.

Issues With The Converter

The converter does not do a 100% accurate and correct job. Like for example, in the example above, it did not convert the word "mandra" correctly. At times it goofs up with words like "swarna" and others. These abberations have to be looked for and fixed manually by typing in the correct text.

Despite its lack of 100% accuracy, it takes care of almost all of a given text, removing the need of a complete manual conversion of Shusha text to Unicode.
