You will have to apply to the NCST at mumbai (www.ncst.ernet.in)
They will register it for you @ Rs. 1500 per two years.
They will only register a co.in for you if the domain name is directly
derived from your registered corporate name and if it is not a generic
name.
For my website hosting / ISP company CN Solutions Private Limited, I
could only get cnsolutions.co.in and not solutions.co.in !
They will ask you to fill out the online signup form and then they will
email you back asking you to fax them your certificate of incorporation
if they are convinced its not a generic name.
Then they will ask you to courier a demand draft to them for the
registration amount.
And then finally one day, you'll have your own .co.in :-)
